At a 4,000-person conference in LA, I watched people line up 60 deep to sit on pee pads with rescue puppies. And maybe it’s me, but something about it just didn’t sit right…
It feels apt that in the second week of Joy Month, thinking about how we manage joy for other people (or can’t), I find myself surrounded by every joy-spreading strategy imaginable. Think candy bowls, espresso machines, stress balls shaped like logos.
All of it well-intentioned, some more creative than others. Almost none of it landing.
So: can you actually create joy for other people? Should you try? And what does authentic joy even look like in a professional context?
I’m thinking out loud from the LA Convention Center. Come think with me. And if you are a conference warrior, please do chime in with your thoughts on finding joy at conferences, or the impossibility of that happening.
Keep on rollin’!
Nell
